The How-to Overview

Most of us wonder how some people look so amazing with high contrast dark lipstick…then we try it and looks horrible. Andreas Choice gives us some awesome tips on how to pull off dark lips!

She shows us her routine and doesn’t just ‘slap it on’. One secret she shares is that she doesn’t have chapped lips when wearing dark lipstick. She makes her own sugar scrub, which is sugar and either olive oil or coconut oil. She puts it on, scrubs for 20 seconds and wipes it off with a paper towel. She does this until her lips are baby soft. If necessary, she does the sugar scrub again. She then coats her lips with a little bit of lip balm. She cautions that she doesn’t use too much.

Another tip she gives is that she uses hair removal cream on the top of her lip and surrounding areas so she doesn’t have a ‘mustache’ or any hair there. She says she doesn’t have much but when she wears dark lipstick she feels like it is more noticeable and feels better after having done it. She puts the cream on for a little bit and wipes it off, then puts on her makeup.

Then she says that she brushes her teeth before she gets started so she doesn’t mess up her artwork or dark lips. Also, she wants bright white teeth to contrast the dark lip color.

She also makes sure she wears foundation and cover up any dark circles under her eyes, because if she has dark makeup on, it will attract more attention.

To get started she always uses lip liner. It is an absolute must! She says with lip liner, a change in the lip shape can be made if desired. The lips can be made to be bigger or smaller, or definition if you use the right techniques. She colors in her lip a little with the lip liner, then puts on her dark lipstick.

The last tip she gives is clean up! It is so important to go back around the lips with a concealer because no matter how steady the hand is it won’t look as polished without this step.
